Pregnancy And Your Oral Health
At Bozeman Gentle Dentistry, we are happy to celebrate all of the exciting milestones in the lives of our patients. One of the most exciting times is pregnancy and adding another member to the family. Although it can be an overwhelming time when preparing for the new baby, it is important to remember that dental care before, during, and after pregnancy is a must. Many of our patients are surprised to learn that pregnancy not only changes your body but can have some lasting effects on your dental health as well. Hormonal changes can cause a change in the state of your oral health and leave you more susceptible to decay and gum disease. Below are recommendations for dealing with your oral health during all stages of pregnancy.
Dental Care Before Pregnancy
If you are planning to add to your family in the near future, we recommend scheduling an appointment for an oral hygiene examination and cleaning. We can make sure your oral health is on track and schedule any needed treatments before you become pregnant. There are some treatments that we prefer not to complete during pregnancy.
Dental Care During Pregnancy
If you need an oral hygiene examination during pregnancy, be sure to come in for your appointment. There is no need to postpone your visit, and we are able to check your teeth and gums to be sure no problems are developing.
Dental Care After Pregnancy
The transition to being a new parent can be a bit of an adjustment. It can be tempting to postpone all appointments, but we do not recommend doing that. We can complete any treatments we may have had to delay. We can also ensure that there are no problems with decay or gum disease.
If you are pregnant or thinking of adding to your family in the near future, now is the perfect time to schedule an appointment for a hygiene examination. We look forward to seeing you in our office, which is located in Bozeman, MT, soon.
