These Dental Habits Get Our Highest Rating
It is important to develop a consistent dental hygiene routine from a young age because you only get one set of teeth, and they are supposed to last a lifetime. Here is a list of outstanding dental habits that get a 10 out of 10 rating in our book.
- Brushing and flossing after every meal. It may seem like a hassle, but brushing and flossing after every meal or snack is excellent for your dental health. Every time you brush and floss, you remove bacteria and food particles from the surfaces and crevices of your teeth and prevent harmful plaque buildup. It only takes a few minutes, and you will certainly see the benefits at your next hygiene examination. If you cannot swing it after every meal, twice a day is also great.
- Drinking water throughout the day. It may not be as enticing as soda or coffee, but water is the most effective way to stay hydrated; plus, it promotes good oral health. Water rinses away harmful bacteria and food particles and leaves nothing on your teeth that could cause decay. When you have a choice of what to drink, water is always the right decision.
- Protecting and respecting your teeth. Your teeth are not indestructible, and they do not heal themselves after injury. We applaud patients who choose to wear mouthguards when playing sports and nightguards to keep from grinding and clenching while they sleep. We’re also big fans of protective fluoride treatments and prioritizing oral health.
- Getting regular cleanings and examinations. Visiting the dentist every six months for an examination and professional cleaning is at the top of our list, not just because we are a dental office. We care about people and know that preventive care is key to long-term oral and overall health. Getting regular dental examinations as part of your overall health and wellness plan gets our highest rating.
Good oral hygiene habits keep your teeth and gums healthy and also contribute to your overall physical health. Adopting these outstanding practices in your oral hygiene routine will only set you up for success now and in the future.
