Bonding, Veneers, & Crowns: The Powerhouses Of Cosmetic Dentistry
At Bozeman Gentle Dentistry, we use cosmetic dentistry every day to improve our patients’ smiles. Three of the most common cosmetic treatments we perform are cosmetic bonding, veneers, and crowns. Each of these treatments serves its purpose and can make a dramatic difference in a person’s smile. Dr. Murphy may recommend bonding, veneers, and crowns individually or in combination with other treatments as part of a complete smile makeover.
Limitless Possibilities
Cosmetic bonding, veneers, and crowns are each versatile cosmetic dentistry treatments. Alone, in combination, or as part of a smile makeover, they can transform a patient’s smile. Whether a patient wants to make a subtle change to one or two teeth or totally make over their smile, one of these treatments is sure to suit their needs. Below is a brief description of each:
Cosmetic Bonding is a natural-looking treatment that disguises minor imperfections like chips, cracks, staining, dullness, and discoloration. Dr. Murphy can apply cosmetic bonding to a single tooth or several teeth to enhance their appearance. The composite bonding material blends seamlessly with the surrounding tooth enamel and remains firmly in place. Cosmetic bonding is durable, but usually needs refreshing in 7-10 years. Dr. Murphy may recommend bonding for a patient wishing to improve the look of one or two teeth or replace old silver fillings.
Veneers: The cosmetic treatment of choice among movie stars and news anchors, veneers create a perfect-looking smile that will never stain or decay. Thin, translucent veneers are ideal for individual teeth to create a more balanced smile and for multiple teeth to achieve a total transformation. Many of our patients ask us about veneers for all their teeth to create their dream smile. Veneers are wonderful for covering up multiple flaws at once, including chips, gaps, cracks, and discoloration. They are fully customizable as well. So, the patient can achieve the exact aesthetic they desire.
Crowns: This tooth-reinforcing treatment restores the integrity and appearance of a severely damaged or weakened tooth, often saving it from needing extraction. A crown bridges the areas of restorative and cosmetic dentistry because it covers the tooth structure to restore shape and function. Dr. Murphy places crowns on teeth that are too weak to support cosmetic bonding or may not have enough healthy tooth enamel remaining for a veneer. She also uses crowns to anchor dental bridges in place. The dental-grade porcelain used to make a crown closely resembles natural tooth enamel and will hold up for years with proper care.
